The Kissel Ventures family

Kissel Ventures GmbH, headquartered near Frankfurt am Main, Germany, invests primarily in young technology companies with a focus on the ICT sector. It was established in 2011 by Simon Kissel, a well-known IT entrepreneur and development Nerd.

Over the years Kissel Ventures has made various investments in different countries. As is normal with venture capital investments, some of those have been successful, while others haven't.

  • In 2006, Kissel Ventures was the lead investor to Viprinet, a company that created the world's first "WAN Bonding" Internet routers, winning several awards and patents. Within the next 10 years, that company became the world-wide leader in that technology. Today Viprinet routers are powering mission critical applications world wide, and can be found anywhere from TV broadcasters to cruise ships. Since 2017, Kissel is no longer involved in Viprinet's business.
  • In 2011, Nerdherrschaft GmbH was created, as a home for Nerds and developers on the autistic spectrum. This R&D company is highly successful in offering services both in Hardware and Software development to various clients.
  • A real-estate investment was made in 2014. Together with an acting partner, the former "Racke" winery logistics estate was acquired and turned into the "Innovationspark Bingen". The former large winery comprises an extensive building complex with a surface area of 12,000 sqm. Since then, a unique place for working and living is being created. Various Kissel Ventures investments are located on-site, as is a top-rated commercial photo studio as well as publicly funded training companies.
  • In 2018, a co-investment into the German-Turkish broadband service company Wantastic was made.

During the last couple of years, various inventions made by Kissel Ventures family companies, most importantly Nerdherrschaft, have been licensed to third parties internationally. Starting 2020, these licensing services will be bundled into the newly founded Brainnovators Licensing Ltd., offering a portfolio of patents and implementations for IT-related inventions to clients world-wide.

Brainnovators Licensing Ltd.'s sole shareholder and owner is Kissel Ventures GmbH.

Simon Kissel

At the age of 10, Kissel started programming; at the age of 16, he became part of the international society of computer artists, the demoscene - and is still a part of it today. Kissel locates himself on the autistic spectrum, and as such is widely regarded as a highly logical and analytical person.

While he has done various investments over the years, and as times has directed a team of 50 employees as a CEO, at a certain point he noticed he prefers working with computers far over working with humans. Due to this, he has stepped out of any operative roles of most of his investments, now only serving on controlling boards, and with his team at Nerdherrschaft is focussed on inventing and developing new technologies.

With Viprinet he already had a strong presence in the US and the UK. Today Nerdherrschaft's customers are located world-wide, with a focus on the US, the UK, Israel and Turkey. It therefore made sense to locate his current and future IP portfolio in Ireland, a country well-respected internationally when it comes to IP licensing business.
